Priority 1 Service
Treated Water Supply
OLWASCO abstracts water from its 12 operational boreholes and from the Malewa River, treats it at our water treatment plant to meet Kenya Bureau of Standards quality, and distributes it through our pipe network. Water quality compliance has improved from 32% to 62%, with a target of 100% by 2030.
We supply water to 4,508 active connections and are expanding towards a target of 8,780 connections by 2030. Daily supply hours are currently 19 hours, targeting 22 hours by 2030.

Priority 2 Initiative
Pipe Maintenance & NRW Reduction
Non-Revenue Water (NRW) β water produced but not billed β stands at 35%. Our Strategic Plan targets reducing this to 28% by 2030 through active leakage control, pressure management, network rehabilitation and enforcement against illegal connections.
Emergency response teams are available 24/7 for burst pipes, major leaks and supply failures. We have replaced 52 valves and installed 5 bulk meters for boreholes and 2 for District Metered Areas (DMAs).

Sanitation & Sewerage Services
Sanitation coverage currently stands at 75%, targeting 85% by 2030. Sewerage coverage is at 1.5%, with a target of 5%. OLWASCO completed Phase 1 of the sewerage system under the Kenya Towns Sustainable Water and Sanitation Services Project (KTSWSSP) funded by AfDB.

Water Source Development
Borehole & Spring Development
OLWASCO operates 12 boreholes β increased from the original 1 in 1973 to 12 today. New borehole drilling is planned under the Strategic Plan 2026β2030 to increase water production capacity and reduce dependency on the Malewa River, which faces challenges from illegal abstractions by upstream farmers.
We work in partnership with CRVWWDA, WSTF and the County Government to fund and implement new water source development including borehole drilling, spring protection and solar pump installation.
